I love teaching private swim lessons!

Hello All,

I have a lot of experience with children and know how they can act so being patient with them is very important. I think kids learn the best visually so showing them what to do and how to do something is very helpful for them to repeat.

My favorite hobbies include skiing, playing basketball, hiking and running. I love animals, I have 3 dogs and my favorite sea creatures are dolphins! I also love the outdoors, some of my favorite on the water activities are wake boarding, paddle boarding, and water skiing.

I love swimming butterfly and playing water polo

Hi Swimmers,
My name is Beth. I've been swimming since I was a child. In high school, I joined the swim team and competed at a 5A level. I joined Varsity my sophomore year and was fortunate enough to become Captain of the swim team my last year. I've been teaching swim lessons for over 10 years.

As for my teaching style, I like to understand each student and create classes that will benefit their particular level. For new swimmers or younger students, breath control and survival skills are super important. For more advanced levels, I focus on detailed technique and try to bring build confidence through a variety of activities and drills. Teaching is my passion, and I want to meet every student where they are and build from there.

When I am not in the pool, I enjoy fishing and camping with my family. I like playing ice hockey, the violin and listening to music, especially BTS. My favorite sea creature is the Orca.

I love swimming

Hi Swimmers!!!

I was on a swim team for one year back in 2009, and outside of that I’ve enjoyed swimming throughout my life casually. In terms of my teaching style, I believe in rewarding hard work with fun. Typically I don’t always mix hard work and fun as it can be distracting to most students, so I put the hard work first and save the fun for the end of the lessons. I’m always trying to adapt new ideas and teaching styles for different kids as I get to know them too!

Outside of the pool, I love playing video games, watching movies and TV shows, and hanging out with my friends. One of my favorite traditions throughout my childhood was going to Water World back in Colorado every 4th of July and then seeing fireworks back at home. My favorite food is steak and my favorite sea creature is a dolphin!!

I swam competitively during high school and two years while in college

Hello All,

I swam on a team in high school as well as 2 years in college. My strokes were freestyle and butterfly! I also have taught swim lessons at other pools for a total of about 2.5 years.

When I teach I try to teach with a positive energy that is encouraging and engaging for my students! I also like to demonstrate to my students right away that I can be very fun and exciting, but I also like my rules to be followed. I love to have my student sometimes help with the plan of a lesson so that they can take ownership of their lesson as well!

I really enjoy swimming laps to clear my head sometimes! I also just enjoy being on or near the water, whether its kayaking on a lake, or playing volleyball at the beach! Going on boat rides is also a very fun time.

My sister and I played a lot of games in the yard using our imagination, like pretending our bikes were horses! I also love the memories I have of going to my grandparents cabin on the lake and spending a weekend up there with my family. We would swim in the summer and go skiing in the winter and it was always a great time!

I like to snowboard in the winter and I have recently gotten back in to reading lots of books. I also like to play card games with friends and jamming to music in the car! I just learned to knit as well...so we'll see if that becomes a new hobby. I love mashed potatoes, or potatoes in any form and I adore ice cream. I will eat ice cream any time during any season and any flavor! (preferably chocolate though).

I think dolphins are very cool and fun! I wouldn't also mind seeing what's it's like to be a mermaid and exploring the sea. My family has a small dog named Ollie! He is super energetic and doesn't always listen very well, but he can be super fun to play hide and seek with.

Swimming is supposed to be fun!

Howdy Swimmers

Swimming is supposed to be fun!!! So I like to encourage my swimmers to have fun with our new techniques. I find that the occasional "wiggle party" is a great way to stay focused on our lesson while still being silly and fun!

I grew up in my neighborhood pool. Stockton was always super hot in the summers, and so more often than not you could find me working on my dives. I spent the entire Summer when I was 12 teaching my younger brother and sister everything I knew about being in the water.

My favorite memories growing up were spent in the woods under the stars. I would go camping every chance I got, whether it was with my family, friends or my scout group. One year I went rafting with my scout group and we had some of the most fun I ever had!

I LOVE to play diving games in the pool! It's so much fun swimming beneath the water, it's like a different world down there! I love acting, singing, dancing and juggling!!!

My favorite sea creature is the blue-ringed octopus. They're masters of camouflage and adaptability! I have a handsome little black cat named George! He loves to run around in our backyard and then take a long nap on my bed.

My approach to teaching swim lessons starts with I want kids to feel safe in the water by having fun. I want kids to be excited for the lesson each session.

When I am not in the pool, I enjoy volleyball, tennis, baking, watching TV and movies. My favorite food is Thai food. My favorite sea creatures are seals.

At 18 months I started swim classes at SNS with Kerrie and her Mom.

Hello All

I started mommy and me classes at 6 months, at 18 months started swim classes at SNS with Kerrie and her Mom. I went up through all of the swim levels for red cross, eventually joined a summer swim team at 6/7 years old. My strokes were freestyle and butterfly. I eventually started the WAC year round swim team and swam on two summer swim leagues, Seattle and Bellevue. I swam in high school my freshman year and earned a varsity letter.

I would describe my teaching style as multifaceted. I really enjoy demonstrating a skill for those who understand that way, but I like understanding how the kiddos learn in general so we always try to work it out! This process works best with an attitude that wants to learn, but adding in silliness and fun helps most to warm up and engage in the lesson. I do believe in pushing a child to exceed what they think they are capable of. Cheerleading and positive reinforcement goes a long way when some are caught up in their fears and need help proving to themselves they really “can“.

I really love all activities in the water! I really love jet skiing and boating/inner tubing. I am an absolute foodie! I love exploring and experiencing different cultural foods! My most favorite food is probably... Steak! And sushi... and any red sauce pasta... Middle eastern food... Greek... don’t make me pick!!

One of my most favorite childhood memories is when we went on a vacation to Atlantis when I was 9 and that probably my favorite vacation. I also enjoyed Hawaii vacations for the sun, ocean, and snorkeling. I love water!

Hannah Todd

Swim Instructor

Hannah Todd

Hannah is a Swim Instructor and Summer Camp Counselor.

My teaching style is paced and repetative. I make sure the child knows exactly what they are doing and are comfortable with doing it by themselves before moving them to the next level. I push for confident swimming while providing a friendly and fun environment. I was born in California and was surrounded by swimming pools and other bodies of water throughout most of my developmental stages so I basically grew up knowing how to swim. I have always been a water baby and loved being in any kind of water, including playing in the kitchen sink and washing dishes to my parents delight. As for swim instructing, I have been at Safe 'N' Sound for over a year now. All of my favorite memories include my family as I am a very family oriented person. I absolutely loved doing anything arts and crafts related, as well as having pool parties with my family and especially my cousins. As I child, I moved around a lot but enjoyed exploring every new place we lived. I love going speedboating and having fun on the intertube! And I love Curry Chicken.

Jorge Vilches

I used to be a professional swimmer in my country

Hola !!

I am Jorge. I used to be a professional swimmer in my country (Mexico). I started in school competitions and quickly transitioned to international ones. My main focus and goal was increasing speed along side technique. So I take training very seriously and I have a lot of fun in the pool.

When teaching lessons, I observe the swimmer and I make a quick test in my mind depending what the swimmer needs. If I see that a swimmer needs to go back an fix kick, floating or stroke we continue to repeat those exercises to build strong skills in the water. We repeat those exercises until they develop solid technique. In another scenario it could be that a swimmer demonstrates many skills and so, I would introduce exercises for the next level.

I love Spanish food, my favorite plate its "fidegua"....And what its fidegua?....OMG, its like a paella but fidegua is done with noodles (pasta) and you eat it with Alioli. It's the best of the best! I like to jump and dive into the water, but floating is my favorite because its like flying but in the water!!!!

I have a memory when I would be at home spending time with my grand mom and playing with the dogs in the back yard. She was my favorite friend!! My favorite sea creature is a Turtle. I like to play the flute and saxophone at my home. I also like to dance and go camping.

I love teaching at Safe N Sound Swimming

Hi All,

I started swimming at the age of 4 and took many lessons to improve my swimming skills, at the age of 7 I started swim team, more towards the age of 12 I started competitive swim team. Currently I'm on the girls high school swim team at Ingraham.

As far as my teaching style, I like to incorporate fun and teaching all in one so like a combination. I like to follow the lesson plan but there's always more you can do to make it more fun and worthwhile.

Personally swim team is my favorite water activity, but aside from that I love playing Marco Polo with others its such a fun game. My all time favorite food is a dish called Pad see-eew which is a traditional Thai noodle. Some of my personal hobbies include
-Going out with friends
-Working at service homes
-Going on bike rides
-Going to swim or play frisbee
-Traveling to other places
and playing with my neighbors

My favorite sea creature is probably a Sea otter because there so cute and I find it cool how they can float on there backs for so long. I would also say that I love dolphins and sharks those animals have incredible water skills.

Kim Dixon

Hi Swimmers!

I love teaching swim lessons! I enjoy praising the student even with the smallest accomplishment to keep them motivated and on task. I also like to incorporate the child's imagination with learning new skills, something that they can relate to. An example might be when they are learning to float, I will often tell them to imagine themselves as a lazy leaf in the water or lying on their back on their bed at home, totally relaxed and unmoving. With big arm reaches, I might say to them to act as though they are eager to ask or answer a question in their class at school, how do they hold their arm?

I took lessons as part of an elementary school program when I was young. As a young adult for a physical fitness program, I was part of a Master's Swim program. I continue to incorporate lap swimming as part of my weekly workout routine, usually swimming between 4000-6000 yards a week.

I enjoy boating in the San Juan Islands. Kayaking in the Sound and lakes in and around Seattle. I also like cycling, swimming, kayaking, hiking, gardening, cooking & reading. My favorite food is Pizza and my favorite Sea Creature is a Star Fish.

I have been swimming and a part of the Safe N Sound family all my life.

Hi Everyone!!

I was my sister Kerrie's first student so I guess I have been around in some capacity since the very beginning. I started swimming when I was a baby and as I grew up, Kerrie would often use me as a student to help train the new instructors. I swam on some summer leagues growing up and in High School my Freshman Year and went to Districts. I decided to teach swimming at SNS instead while doing a few other sports the rest of my High School career. I have been teaching for over 10 years.

I adapt my teaching style to each child, fun but structured. I am goal oriented and encourage confidence in each student.

My favorite childhood memories include playing in the water with my siblings growing up and having my father teach me how to water Ski. I specifically remember my dad telling me to not let go while water skiing and when I couldn't get up and fell over, I did what he told me and didn't let go. LOL He made sure to remind me that he meant only when standing not when I'm getting up on my skis. :-)

I love swimming and being out on the water. My favorite thing now is watching my kids start to grow and learn how to swim and expanding their love of the water too. I love to Craft and DIY, watch movies and play with my kids. I'm a sucker for chips and salsa but picking just one favorite food is so hard. I would say that I love all types of Mexican and Thai food!

I love Dolphins, they are such graceful and playful creatures! I love seeing them glide through the water and always swim together in large pods. My family and I have a dog named Luca, some people say he looks a little like Flacor from the Never ending story and I'd have to agree.

Hello to my swimmers!!

I take the time to try and observe what the student is comfortable with and adjust in ways I feel works best to there learning. I am always energetic and Understanding. Also I take the time to connect and put together the likes and dislikes to help me better understand how to teach my student and help push them to there full potential.

My favorite childhood memory was, trying to build up enough courage to jump of the high dive, I grew up watching the big kids do it so I wanted to do it as well at Green Lake, Seattle. Once I Jumped in, I came out crying but after that never feared jumping into the water again.
